Dr. Daniel du Plooy

Doctor of Management in Technology and Innovation

Dr. du Plooy spent years inside some of South Africa's most complex capital infrastructure programmes, witnessing first-hand the devastating impact of poor project governance. Budget overruns, schedule failures, and resource inefficiencies were not inevitable — they were predictable, if you had the right analytical lens.

His doctoral research, completed at the Da Vinci Institute for Technology Management in 2025, produced the integrated business analytics framework that forms the intellectual foundation of Projexas — translating rigorous academic methodology into a practical, enterprise-grade platform.

Developing an Integrated Business Analytics Framework to Enhance the Performance of Capital Infrastructure Projects

Da Vinci Institute for Technology Management · Doctor of Management in Technology and Innovation · 2025

157 Projects Across 5 Years

The study analysed a sample of 157 Eskom electricity infrastructure projects executed between 2018 and 2022, covering concept, definition, and execution planning phases.

Root Cause: Missing Integration

Projects failed not from a lack of data, but from a failure to integrate inputs, outputs, relationships, and interdependencies across project phases — creating invisible blind spots.

Systems Engineering as the Foundation

The research concluded that an integrated analytics process must be grounded in systems engineering principles to surface all dependency chains within a project.

“An integrated business analytical process is urgently needed and must be designed and constructed to support infrastructure projects... It must be able to identify all relationships and outcome dependencies within a project and must be based on the principles of systems engineering.”

From Research to Reality

Projexas exists to close the gap between how infrastructure projects are currently managed and how they should be managed — with full analytical visibility, proactive risk intelligence, and evidence-based decision-making.

We believe that no capital infrastructure project should fail due to a lack of integrated oversight. The research is done. The framework is proven. Now it is time to deploy it at scale.
